Baby Shower

Here is the final project from my friend Kim's baby shower. The green cupcakes were Key Lime Pie, the yellow and blue were Vanilla Vanilla, and the cake was Pumpkin with cream cheese frosting. I learned a lot from my first cube cake experience and if I ever do it again, I'll know what to do and what not to do!

Cupcake Pops

I found these great Cupcake Pops created by Bakerella. Mine are done with a pumpkin pound cake, cream cheese frosting and dipped in candy melts for Halloween. Next time, I would skip the candy melts and use a better chocolate like Ghirardelli.

Done in different color schemes, these would make great table centerpieces at bridal or baby showers or a wonderful gift for someone in place of a fresh flower arrangement.

Elephant Cake Toppers

While searching cake websites for inspiration, I found a lot of cake decorators using sculpted fondant cake toppers. Since I had some fondant on hand, and was planning on doing a baby shower cake, I thought I would try some elephants. Each one is a little bit different as I feel like a learned a little each time I completed one.

Cupcake Stands

I made this cupcake stand especially for a baby shower that I am doing this coming weekend. This shower is for a boy which is why I left out one pink ribbon but it can easily be switched in the future. I'll post pictures of the stand fully loaded with cupcakes after this weekend!

These will be for sale in the future. Depending on size, I would charge between 35.00 and 50.00. I also have the supplies to make a round version.

The original idea for this stand was taken from Cake Journal a great blog that I follow and unfortunately at this time is not working for me to link to.

Key Lime Pie Cupcakes

This past weekend I made a test batch of Key Lime Pie Cupcakes. I wanted to make these with a coconut twist (I believe that was the flavor combination I enjoyed at Georgetown Cupcake) however in the end, I decide to stay all Key Lime. I believe this was the right decision as to quote my husband, "These are the best cupcakes I have ever had!"

After much searching on-line for the perfect recipe, I found one at Peabody's Culinary Concoctions. I changed a couple of the ingredients to take advantage of what I had already as well as some of the directions.

Lion Paws Diaper Cake

Have all this...

...Turned into this!

All the items in and on this diaper cake are direct from the mommy-to-be's registry at Buy Buy Baby. It is full of onsies, sleepers, burp cloths, bibs and socks. The lion on the front is a hoodie towel and is the same pattern as the booties on the outside as well as the sleepers and burp cloths on the inside. I even found ribbon with paws on it at JoAnns.

Springtime Cupcakes

I thought I would test a new vanilla recipe for my cupcakes.  While I was making my cake for class, I made another recipe so I could take the cupcakes to work for some taste testing. Overall, the feedback on these was good.  But they were very small and somewhat dry. They also lacked an intense vanilla flavor - which some people were looking for.

A Great Springtime Cake

This was my final cake in course 2. All the flowers are made from royal icing and the butterfly is done with a color flow technique. The frosting is buttercream and applied to the cake with a basket weave tip and rope border. It is a vanilla cake from Warren Brown's Cake Love book and filled with low sugar organic blackberry preserves from Trader Joes. Also, inside I mixed buttercream with Chambord and the preserves to have different color layers.
